This success is due to the community that is created at Old Farm School. However, academic achievement is only one measure of success. Through our cross-subject expeditionary curriculum, students have enjoyed an engaging, creative and rich learning experience.

We place an emphasis on play. We deliver this through learning episodes in our lessons and the range of extracurricular options we offer This has allowed our students to engage with the world and create beautiful work that really matters and that has made a difference.
For example, our students:
Created artistic impression boards for the Skiningrove community
Hosted a tea party for the local Rotary Club
Designed and coordinated a range of fundraising events to provide a defibrillator to the local community
Took part in a live archaeological dig, unearthing Neolithic artefacts within our local environment
Visited London to contrast our local environment with a major city
Created Geocahes in the local environment and public play spaces
Designed and created a Viking shield, and produced a presentation both orally and digitally about the history of the Vikings.
Worked with the Chris Cave Foundation on eradicating knife crime. Producing displays and winning a national award

All of our students have visited:
A range of museums, including Leeds Armouries, The Natural History Museum, The Yorvik Centre, The Life Centre and many more
Art galleries including The Tate, MiMA, Inspired in Danby
Areas of interest in our local environment, including Whitby, The Gare, The North York Moors National Park
We have contrasted Lythe Village Church with the York Minster

All of the students have the opportunities to attend residentials

Through our learning missions our students not only gain the knowledge to pass exams, not just the cultural capital of knowing the world around them, but also the powerful knowledge to positively change the world they will adopt when they leave school.
This builds the character and resilience of our students as we allow them all to respectfully express who they are through their work.
Students say that they love coming to school resulting in extremely high attendance rates massively above the National Average for a provision of our nature.
Underpinning this character growth, the Duke of Edinburgh award is participated in by all of our students. This resulted in

As adults, we are judged by who we are and the quality of our work. This is why we focus relentlessly on character growth and beautiful work as well as qualifications. Qualifications will get you through the door. Who you are and the quality of your work will get you the job, the place at the Colleges of your choice, or the start-up business loan. Therefore, we are extremely proud of our staff, students, parents and the wider community that has built our school together on these shared values and goals. We have achieved all this because of our differences. We look forward to continuing this work for the young people of our local community.
