Operation Encompass

Old Farm School are proud to work in partnership with ‘Operation Encompass’.

Operation Encompass is a police and education early information sharing partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support for children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. Information is shared by the police with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended a domestic abuse incident thus enabling appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Children experiencing domestic abuse are negatively impacted by this exposure; domestic abuse has been identified as an Adverse Childhood Experience and can lead to emotional, physical and psychological harm. Operation Encompass aims to mitigate this harm by enabling immediate support, making a child’s day better and giving them a better tomorrow.

Operation Encompass believes that children are victims of domestic abuse in their own right and should be acknowledged as such.

PREVENT STRATEGY

What is the Prevent strategy?

Prevent a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes.

The Prevent Strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes.

Educate Against Hate – https://educateagainsthate.com/

This is an important government website that provide advice and information about protecting children from extremism and radicalisation.

How does the Prevent strategy apply to schools?

From July 2015 all schools have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism.

This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from drugs or gang violence.

The Prevent Strategy is not just about discussing extremism itself, which may not be appropriate for younger children. However, it is about teaching children values such as tolerance and mutual respect.

Importantly, we can provide a safe place for pupils to discuss any issues so they better understand how to protect themselves.

Accidents and Illnesses in School

If your child is ill or has an accident during the school day they will be checked by a member of staff who is trained in First Aid. We have staff in all areas of the school that are paediatric trained.  If the need arises we will contact you using the details you give us on your child’s contact form.  It is therefore extremely important that these numbers are kept up to date and you inform the school office of any changes.

If we have a concern or we feel your child would benefit from being at home we will contact you as soon as possible.

"A full programme is in place for careers education. The headteacher has set up and continues to set up links with colleges and businesses in the local area. There is a focus on ensuring pupils leave the school with skills and qualifications that make them employable." - Ofsted, July 2020
